How we prepare objects for safe international shipment

Many objects are acquired at a distance, and careful packing is an essential part of how we present and deliver them.

At LiuHe Curio, each object is prepared for shipment with close attention to material, fragility, structure, surface, and destination. We approach packing not as a routine afterthought, but as an important extension of the object’s presentation, handling, and care.

Our Approach

​

Each object is prepared individually rather than treated as a standard retail parcel. The packing method depends on the nature of the piece: ceramics, tea wares, bronzes, hardstone carvings, lacquer, wood, textiles, paintings, scholar’s objects, incense pieces, and sculptural works may each require different forms of handling and protection.

Our aim is to support safe international delivery while respecting the physical character and material needs of the object itself.

What We Consider

When preparing an object for shipment, we consider factors such as:

Material
Ceramic, stone, bronze, wood, lacquer, textile, paper, glass, or mixed materials may require different packing methods.

​

Fragility
Thin rims, handles, carved details, protruding forms, textile surfaces, stands, fittings, and bases may need additional support.

​

Surface Character
Patina, lacquer, gilding, textile fibers, painted surfaces, glaze, inlay, or delicate surface detail may require careful wrapping and separation from abrasive materials.

Form and Structure
Irregular forms, sculptural shapes, handles, covers, bases, screens, or multipart objects may require customized internal support.

Destination
International delivery may involve long-distance handling, customs inspection, carrier transfer, and local delivery conditions.

Packing Methods

​

Depending on the object, packing may include protective wrapping, internal cushioning, corner protection, form-specific support, reinforced boxing, double boxing, separation of removable parts, and additional padding around fragile areas.

For larger, higher-value, or especially fragile objects, additional packing measures may be recommended or arranged where appropriate.
