Description
This carved jadeite archer’s ring follows the form of traditional thumb rings associated with archery, status, and later collecting culture. Compact in scale yet strong in profile, the piece is shaped to emphasize the tactile and material qualities of the stone.
The jadeite shows a polished surface and a compact cylindrical form, qualities that make such objects appealing both as historical accessories and as cabinet pieces. In later collecting, archer’s rings came to be appreciated not only for their original function but also for the quality of the material and the refinement of their workmanship.
Objects of this type occupy an interesting place between personal adornment, martial association, and scholarly collecting. Their simplicity of form allows the eye to focus on stone quality, polish, and proportion.
The present example is offered as a carved jadeite archer’s ring and should be read as a collector’s object described with appropriate restraint.
