Overview
A substantial Shoushan Furong stone seal distinguished by its softly translucent peach-toned stone, powerfully carved dragon knob, and bold seal-script face.
Description
This impressive seal is carved from Shoushan Furong stone and notable for the refined contrast between its smooth geometric body and the animated sculptural treatment of the knop. The rectangular seal block is surmounted by a high-relief dragon group, the creatures rendered in tightly coiled form with scaled bodies, open jaws, and flowing whiskers, creating a sense of contained energy above the disciplined symmetry of the base.
Particularly appealing is the character of the stone itself. The material displays a gentle transition from pale creamy white to warm peach and coral tones, with soft translucency, natural inclusions, and subtle tonal variation that enrich the surface without disturbing its overall harmony. This restrained color range gives the seal an elegant warmth and allows the carving to remain the primary visual focus. The underside is crisply cut with a seal-script inscription, reinforcing the object’s identity as both a functional seal and a scholar’s work of art.
Objects of this type are especially admired for the way fine stone, calligraphic culture, and sculptural carving are brought together in a single object. Here, the substantial scale, the dramatic dragon knop, and the luminous Shoushan material combine to create a seal of strong cabinet appeal. The fitted presentation box further enhances its scholarly and collectible character.
