This agarwood scholar’s object is conceived in the form of a small vertical mountain, its tapering profile rising with quiet strength from a fitted hardwood stand. Unlike more dramatically contorted root carvings, this example derives its appeal from restraint: the natural material has been preserved in a simplified, peak-like silhouette that emphasizes line, balance, and contemplative presence.
Particularly appealing is the surface of the wood itself.
